SECTOR
IT for Logistics, Warehousing & Transport
In logistics, IT stops being a support function and becomes part of production: if the warehouse Wi-Fi drops, receiving and picking stop. We design networks and wireless for steel racking and cold rooms, with cameras and access control sharing the same infrastructure.
In a transport company or a warehouse, IT is not a support function. It is part of production. When the wireless drops in aisle E, it is not one employee who is inconvenienced: order picking stops, and the delay shows up in the afternoon dispatch.
The problems we see most often
The Wi-Fi was designed for offices. The most common picture: coverage that worked when the warehouse was empty and stopped working once the racking filled up. Steel volume and cold rooms change signal propagation radically. That is why the site survey is done with the space in real operating conditions.
Everything on one network segment. Terminals, scanners, cameras, phones and office computers share one network, with no separation and no priority. The result is camera recording competing with the WMS for the same bandwidth.
The ERP gets blamed for everything. In most inventories we run, the instability attributed to the ERP originates in the network: marginal uncertified cabling, a switch with no PoE headroom, or a provider circuit with no backup.
One internet line, no redundancy. In a business that invoices and dispatches electronically, a line fault is an outage. The same applies to the phone system if no failover route has been defined.
Cameras that record but do not help. In a space with loading and unloading, resolution and retention days determine whether the footage answers a damage or loss question. They are usually decided casually, after the equipment has been bought.
What proper design means here
| Sector requirement | How it is addressed |
|---|---|
| Coverage in aisles and cold rooms | Site survey with the space full, positions and power from measurement |
| Terminals that roam without dropping | Centrally managed wireless, correct access point density |
| WMS and ERP without instability | VLAN separation and priority for critical traffic |
| Cameras and access control on the same infrastructure | Shared structured cabling, calculated PoE budget, dedicated VLAN |
| Operational continuity | A backup circuit and a failover route for calls |
| Multiple sites | VPN interconnection, one infrastructure standard at every location |
The services that apply
The usual scenario is a single project: structured cabling and business Wi-Fi for the space, a corporate network with VLAN separation, and cameras with access control on the same infrastructure.
From there, day to day operation is covered by an IT support agreement and preventive maintenance, so incidents are caught before they stop the flow.
For transport companies with shipping operations, the same logic extends to maritime IT: separation of operational and crew networks, multiple connectivity channels, and remote support while under way.
When it is worth calling us
The most economical moment is before the space is closed up: while ceilings are open and routes are accessible. The second best is the moment you are thinking of adding two more access points, because that is almost never the answer.
RELEVANT AREAS
The areas that apply to this sector
Networks & Infrastructure
Structured cabling, LAN/WAN, firewalls and Wi-Fi. We design the logical topology before a cable is pulled.
IT Support & Managed Services
Support contracts and managed IT. We monitor before something breaks, instead of waiting for the phone to ring.
Physical Security Systems
CCTV, access control and alarms, built as a network. Separate VLAN, never exposed to the internet.
Maritime IT & Satellite Connectivity
Starlink, vessel networking and support under way. Operational and crew networks always separated, with automatic failover.
