Servers, Backup & Disaster Recovery

Server Installation & Management

We install and manage Windows and Linux servers, sized against the real workload of your applications rather than a generic recommendation. We use virtualisation so one machine is not tied up per role, and we hand over documentation, working backup and 24/7 monitoring that alerts before a failure surfaces.

Who it is for

  • Businesses with ERP or an application requiring a local server
  • Companies with a server at the end of its useful life
  • Organisations wanting virtualisation instead of several machines
  • Sites where nobody is monitoring the server at all

When we are NOT the right choice

  • If the workload can be served entirely by cloud services
  • If there is no suitable space with power and cooling
  • If installation is requested without a backup plan

PROCESS

The process

Indicative times from signature of the proposal, subject to hardware availability. Every project is shaped to the size and the needs of the client.

  1. 01Workload and requirement analysis

We record what will run, for how many users, with what demands. Sizing follows the workload, not a supplier catalogue.Time: 2-5 working daysDeliverable: Resource requirements per application

  2. 02Proposal with alternatives

We present alternatives, typically local server against a hybrid design, with both acquisition cost and running cost.Time: 3-7 working days after the surveyDeliverable: At least two costed options

  3. 03Installation and virtualisation

We install and set up virtualisation, so roles stay separate and moving to new hardware later does not mean rebuilding everything.Time: 2-5 daysDeliverable: Configured server with separated roles

  4. 04Backup and monitoring

No server is handed over without backup running and without monitoring that alerts before a disk fills or fails.Time: During implementationDeliverable: Working backup and alerting

  5. 05Handover and documentation

We hand over documentation of configuration, roles and access, and credentials securely. The infrastructure is yours.Time: On completionDeliverable: Configuration and access documentation

From practice

The most common reason for a new server is not performance, it is age: a machine out of warranty, with drives that have been running for years and nobody watching their condition.

Virtualisation mainly changes what comes next. When replacement time arrives, the move happens without rebuilding every role from scratch, and a restore test can run without anyone touching the production environment.

Prerequisites

  • Suitable space with power, bonding and cooling
  • A list of applications to be hosted
  • A backup plan decided before installation
  • Network access and management credentials

Cost

Installation is quoted as a project with hardware, licences and labour itemised. Ongoing management, monitoring and patching sit within the support agreement at a monthly charge per server.

We do not publish a price list. Every proposal follows a site survey and separates hardware from labour.

What moves the cost

  • Number of roles and virtual machines
  • Resource requirements of the applications
  • Whether migration from an existing server is needed
  • Availability and redundancy requirements

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need a server, or should I move to the cloud?

It depends on the applications. ERP with local dependencies or large file volumes often costs more in the cloud. We present both scenarios with acquisition cost and running cost.

What does virtualisation give me?

Role separation without one machine per role, easier recovery, and migration to new hardware without rebuilding everything from scratch.

How long does installation take?

Typically 2 to 5 days for a server or NAS, subject to hardware availability. Data and application migration is planned separately and usually runs outside working hours.

Do you monitor the server afterwards?

Yes, under a support agreement, with 24/7 monitoring and alerts before a failure surfaces: disk space, drive health, temperature and backup job success.

NEXT STEP

Discuss sizing for your server

We record what will run on it and propose two options, with acquisition cost and running cost side by side.
